This 2 hour course gets at the historic Hippocratic notion that is at the heart of medical practice--to do no harm. Doctors know that their job is to “not make a bad situation worse through their intervention.” Relating to the job of the Parent Aide, the minor children under their care and supervision have been traumatized by the chaotic and difficult circumstances of their lives. They have been damaged prior to being placed in the hands of the Parent Aide. Empathy, sensitivity and genuine caring are foundational character traits needed to be an excellent Parent Aide. Those same qualities are also likely to contribute to that person being susceptible to secondary trauma and burn out. This course provides insights on how to avoid making things worse for the minor children in your care and supervision. This course provides a practical and theoretical guide for the Parent Aide to behave and demonstrate professionalism and excellence in their handling of their charges.
